Like me, many of you who come across this article are sound fanatics. And, like me, you hate compromising on sound while watching your favorite movie or tv show. Let’s face it, the whole experience is just not the same without a pair of headphones. You are not immersed enough and there can be quite a lot going on in the background that can be very distracting.
Hans Zimmer scored movies just aren’t the same without the proper sound technology.
In this article, I will be talking about some of the best wireless headphones for your television. You are looking to get a pair of wireless Bluetooth headphones so that you can watch your favorite movies on Netflix with complete immersion. I will help you to get to that. It may get a little overwhelming with all features I will talk about. But do not worry, I will break it down into simpler words so that you can understand all the nuances of a wireless headset which will help you make the right choice.
We will also be borrowing a lot of opinions, reviews, and feedback from a micro-blogging site called Reddit. Reddit is one of the biggest micro-blogging sites out there. There are users from all over the world that like to discuss different topics. Be it gaming or culinary adventures or fashion or anything. There’s something for everyone out there.
How to find the Right Wireless Headset for you
In this section, I will be talking about finding your preferences and choosing the right Bluetooth headset for you. You are free to skip over to the next section if you know your way around headphone technical jargon.
First things first, you need to check whether your tv is compatible with wireless headsets. It can be pretty frustrating to get yourself brand-new headsets only to realize that your tv has no Bluetooth or wireless compatibility.
Secondly, since the headphones are wireless, it DOES NOT mean they’ll connect to your television through Bluetooth. It’s a common misconception that Wireless usually means Bluetooth. Which is far from the truth.
The truth is that wireless headsets use various technologies to transmit audio signals from the TV to the headset. The most common wireless technologies are Bluetooth, Radio Frequency(RF), and Infrared(IR). You’ll come across these terms quite often while shopping for a new headset.
- Bluetooth headsets connect wirelessly to your TV using Bluetooth technology. Ensure that your TV has built-in Bluetooth or an adapter to support this connection.
- Radio Frequency or RF headsets use radio waves to transmit audio signals. They come with a base station that connects to your TV, allowing you to listen wirelessly within a certain range.
- Infrared or IR headsets use infrared signals to transmit audio. They require a direct line of sight between the headset and the transmitter, making them suitable for smaller areas.
Bluetooth TV headphones are the most common types of headset that are available. Since most of the TVs come with built-in Bluetooth support, you mostly won’t have any major compatibility issues. However, you can experience an audio lag due to codec mismatch or interference.
RF TV headphones are a solid choice if your TV does not support Bluetooth. These headphones connect to any TV that has an RCA Audio Output. Those Red-White-Yellow plugs that you used to connect your favorite console or DVD to your TV back in the day. RF offers a longer range too, with almost up to 328 feet and it is immune to interferences from walls or ceilings. Small little facts like these will help you determine what kind of wireless compatibility you should go for.
And finally, IR TV headphones offer the best sound with almost Zero Latency. Their transmission rates are very fast and it is meant for those who prioritize sound for their entertainment. But the drawback of IR TV headsets are that you must remain we’ll aligned and close to the transmitter for a stable connection.
Now coming on to the Sound Quality, there are three features you should keep in mind. Surround Sound, Noise Cancellation, and Sound Customisation. You’ll often come across these terms because they are heavily marketed.
- Surround Sound: Technology that creates a more immersive audio experience by simulating a multi-channel speaker setup.
- Noise Cancellation: Technology that reduces background noise, providing a focused and clear audio experience.
- Sound Customization: Headsets that offer equalizer settings or sound modes, allowing you to adjust the audio according to your preferences.
Now the sound quality of the tv headphones should not only be about how music sounds. You should test out the clarity of audio with ambient sounds or dialogue as well. Headphones focusing more on the details and clarity of audio help you concentrate more on dialogue to easily understand and follow what you are watching.
In other words, an excellent set of TV headphones should possess the capability to capture nuances such as background noise, whispers, and additional sound effects that are often overlooked when listening in an open environment.
Now I’ll be breaking down a couple of terms that may not be marketed heavily, but it is essential for your understanding.
Sound signature
Sound signatures refer to the nature of sound produced after the drivers have adapted to amplify or reduce certain frequencies.
All headphones come with different sound signatures and your headphones can either have a neutral (flat), bright, baddy or v-shaped sound signatures, among many others.
If you want to have an optimal TV viewing experience, you should go for a neutral sound signature. It will not enhance or artificially amplify the sound, allowing you to experience the audio exactly as it was originally intended to be heard.
But if you like your audio a bit more colorful then V-shaped sound signature is pretty ideal. It’s great for music as well other forms of entertainment. It will have enhanced highs and lows but reduced mids.
When the mid-range frequencies, where vocals usually reside, are diminished, it can result in the vocals being overshadowed by other sound effects in the audio you’re listening to.
Frequency range
The frequency range refers to the spectrum of frequencies your headphones can produce. These are measured in Hertz (Hz) and extend from one limit (low frequencies) to another end (high frequencies).
Typically, headphones can reproduce sounds within the frequency range of approximately 20 to 20kHz, which aligns with standard human hearing capabilities. Nonetheless, certain headphones offer a wider frequency range, including lows that extend down to 10Hz. These lower frequencies are often more perceptible through vibrations rather than audible to the ear. However, such headphones also have a reduced risk of distortion when sound approaches the limits of 20-20kHz compared to conventional headphones.
Transmission Range
Your connection quality will be the best if you are well within the transmission range. All headphones have different transmission ranges with Bluetooth headsets having a much shorter range than RF headsets.
Unless the Bluetooth headphones are equipped with version 5.0 or higher, the range will be limited to about 164 feet or less. RF headphones have a more extended range of around 328 feet.
It’s important to note that there are factors that can affect the range of wireless TV headsets, even if they are advertised with a specific range, such as up to 164 feet. Interferences from wireless Wi-Fi speakers, walls, and other physical objects can impact the actual range you’ll experience. So, it’s essential to keep in mind that the advertised range may not always translate to the full range you can enjoy in real-world conditions.
Now that I have cleared the basics, let’s move on to some of the best headphones out there.

‘ These have the best audio quality I have ever heard out of over-ear Bluetooth headphones. I truly believe these are a hidden gem in the wireless headphone space in terms of audio quality. If you are looking for the best Bluetooth audio quality, this is it.
As for ANC, I would not get these if you’re looking for that feature. Sure, the feature is there, but it is nowhere near as good as what the Airpods Max offer. It also has a passthrough feature, and it does its job.
Like the Airpods Max, it also offers 3D special audio. However, the Yamaha’s do a better job and also allow you to use it on non-apple devices. It has 7 profiles which are Cinema, Drama, Music Video, Concert Hall, Outdoor Live, Audio Room, and Background music. It allows you to look around and hear it as if you were there. My personal favorite is Outdoor Live. It really sounds like I’m listening to a live band. It’s more of a gimmick than anything, but it’s a cool feature to use on occasion.
In terms of build quality these are mostly made of plastic but are very well built. No flexing, creaking, or anything that seems like it would break. There is metal construction where it matters like the headband and in the earcup rotating mechanism. Very good construction and wont break any time soon.’ – u/FizziSoda

‘I am not a professional audio critic, I’m just a dude on Reddit.
I bought these on Black Friday sale (from 350 CAD to 190), but pricing will be discussed in the end. Let’s go through all the most important parts.
Build Quality/Design (8.5/10) I really like the design of these headphones, I have the black titanium pair and they look slick, the fabric is water resistant, the ear cups are soft and very comfortable with glasses, but there are some complaints. You have to swivel the cups to turn on the headphones, which in turn makes it so you can’t use it with an aux cord without battery on.
Battery Life (10/10) The claims do hover below 36 hours and the fast charging is bananas. It’s pretty much the upper echelon of battery life in the Bluetooth headphone category
Microphone (9/10) It’s a very solid mic for a BT headphone and can capture your voice in a phone call in noisy situations.

I have no issues with the ear cups, they fit me perfectly and I wear these headphones for 6+ hours at a time on some days. The noise canceling is there, it’s not as good as Bose, but it definitely works. The sound in my opinion is great. Battery life is amazing too.’ – u/ehpee
‘Just a quick impression about this Headphone because i think this thing is underrated.
Appereance? Depends on personal taste really, i think it’s great. Dark Brown (fake) leather on top of the headband with wood accent on the earcup sides makes this headphone looks premium, not the usual boring black.
Sound quality? Very good and well balanced, i had the opportunity to try the Bose qc 2, Beats Studio 3, and Sony XB something, and they sound…. Muffled for some reason. Their bass is overpowering the instrument and vocal voice so i much prefer this one. For reference, it sounds like the Senheisser HD 4.50 but a bit Bass boosted so it’s not completely flat. The sound quality is excellent for this price point.
Features? Jam packed! This thing is Equipped with ANC that works well, but not as good as the Bose QC tho (duh), you can also toggle the Microphone to listen to your surroundings. This way you can listen to your surroundings without taking off your headphone similar function like a hearing aid). It also has an auto pause feature that pause your media when you take off your headphone which is kinda nice.’ – u/Agatha27

‘As somebody who owns a pair of these currently, the mic quality is good and the sound quality is great when the 7.1 surround system is turned off. Coming from the HyperX Cloud before these, the comfortability is sub-par when wearing glasses as well as wearing them for an extended time (3+ hrs.) without glasses. They get very hot inside the ear-cuffs and make me sweat at times. Logitech G software can be hit or miss at times, but it does provide many different settings to change for game specificity. They also have inline mute and volume that is very useful.
I paid about this price for mine well over a year ago and I would buy them again due to sound quality for <$50 headset.’ – u/AynesD21

When traveling not having to worry about the cable when moving around or it getting cought on something while your turning around in a tight space on a plane. If your not going to put them on until you get to your seat then it doesn’t make sense, I often out my headphones on before TSA and don’t take them off until I get into a car on the other side.’ – u/whyisntitlegal
‘Yeah I have been using the Avantree HT5009 for two years now. It is a transmitter and headphone combo but any blue tooth headphone or speaker can be used with it. Also you can use the headphones with any blue tooth device or and device with a headphone jack. This runs for $130 but if you just want the transmitter I think it is around $50. There are a billion transmitter, so you could find a cheaper ones for like $15 dollars but they will be more limited and probably have sound delay.
Anyway I have the Avantree hooked to the optical out of my tv. This way anything that is hook to my tv (pc, roku, switch, ps4) I can get the sound piped to my blue took headphones or my blue tooth speakers or even have the sound sent to both at the same time or have the sound sent to two blue tooth head phones at the same time or just one or the other. There are two other connections I could use besides optical RCA and something else. There is one downside that might be major, it doesn’t work with dolby. I have a old version so the new version might work with dolby.’ – u/BaronOfHell
