TVs are present in almost all households. A lot of them even have separate TVs for each room. TVs are not only a way to fill your living room with a beautiful giant screen, but also often a way of socializing. A lot of people like to invite guests and watch TV together, others like to play video games on their TV. Regardless of the reason you may want to buy a TV, we’ve got you covered, with a list of the best TV for each category. All TVs mentioned in the list are smart TVs and have a minimum resolution of 4K.
However, before we head to the list, you must consider the fact that different people buy TVs for different purposes, and what is best for your friend might not be best for you. There are a lot of terms that you’ll come across while buying a TV, some of which you may not be familiar with. But don’t worry! Here’s a very basic guide to help you:
What is QLED and OLED?
QLED is a marketing term used by Samsung for its TVs. QLED is a type of LED backlit LCD TV with quantum dots for higher resolution. Just like other LCD TVs, QLED TVs usually get very bright, but don’t deliver high contrast ratio and true blacks like OLED panels.
OLED TVs are usually more expensive, and provide excellent contrast, true blacks and much more vibrant colors. OLED panels have the ability to turn off individual pixels, which makes true blacks possible. Shadows and light are beautifully portrayed by OLED TVs, which is not the case with other LCD TVs like QLED.
What is a 120 Hz display?
Displays have a rate of refreshing every second, which allows them to show smooth animations. The higher the refresh rate, the smoother the animations. A high refresh rate is, therefore, particularly important if you wish to game on your TV. You wouldn’t want to have jitters while playing a game. When “120 Hz display” isn’t mentioned in the features/specs/description, the TV most likely features a 60 Hz panel, which is fine, but not as smooth as a 120 Hz display.
With that said, let’s dive into the list:
Best TV Reddit
1. Sony Bravia XR A80J – Best 4K OLED TV
Released in 2021, the Sony Bravia XR A80J is an older model of the XR A80K released in 2023. It comes in three sizes: 55 inches, 65 inches, and 77 inches. The newer model, A80K comes with a display featuring OLED XR Contrast Pro, which gives a slightly better contrast and brightness range than the standard OLED XR Contrast featured in the A80J. It also gives you better viewing angles. However, these minimal differences don’t justify the bump in cost from A80J to A80K, making the newer model a poor value compared to the older one. The 55 inch version of the A80J costs $999, while the 77 inch version costs $3499. It features Acoustic Surface Audio+, which transmits sound by sending vibrations through the screen itself. It causes the sound to come exactly from the place in the picture where it’s supposed to originate from if it were in real life.
- Acoustic Surface Audio+
- Excellent viewing angles
- Impressive contrast
- Reliable
- Expensive
Reddit reviews:
“Like many others in this thread, I picked up the 77” A80J from BB two months ago and couldn’t be happier.” -u/Fkn_Red
“I have the 77-inch A80J and it’s incredible. By far the best TV I’ve ever owned. I can’t think of a single critique, really.” -u/martin_dc16gte
2. Samsung QN900B Neo QLED 8K – Best 8K TV
The Samsung QN900B comes in three sizes: 65 inches, 75 inches, and 85 inches. It features an 8K screen with quantum mini LEDs. The TV doesn’t have an OLED panel, and instead uses a 120 Hz standard LED backlit panel. This means that although you get a super high resolution, you don’t get the best contrast ratio out there, and the colors don’t appear as punchy and vibrant as OLED panels. The TV has an Infinity Display, with ultra thin bezels that are barely noticeable and an impressive brightness of upto 2,000 nits. The 75 inch and 85 inch versions feature Quantum HDR 64x, which ensure visibility in certain light and dark scenes by adjusting the color. The screen is anti-glare, which enhances viewing experience. The TV remote is powered by Advanced SolarCell technology which can harvest power from lights and even radio waves from your Wi-Fi router.
- 120 Hz display
- 8K resolution
- Appreciable brightness
- Brilliant design
- Anti-glare display
- LCD panel
- Expensive
Reddit reviews:
“I have a Samsung NEO QN900B and love the screen. Used in a lounge theatre, so often room is quite bright.
OS is a variable, but perhaps not a primary one when considering your choice of panel. All of my media is source based (Nvidia Shield, HD Blu-ray, PC etc), so I don’t even need to use the TV OS.” -u/TheAgreeableCow
“SAMSUNG 65-Inch Class Neo QLED 8K QN900B Series is awesome and gives me the best experience of watching TV.” -u/EricMoore1995
3. LG C2 Evo OLED – Great TV With A Lot Of Sizes
The LG C2 Evo OLED comes in 6 sizes: 42 inches, 48 inches, 55 inches, 65 inches, 77 inches, and 83 inches. It has a 4K OLED panel with a 120 Hz refresh rate. There are 4 HDMI ports. There are 3 USB ports. It supports Dolby Vision, which provides you a high quality, vibrant and color-accurate display. The display isn’t the brightest out there, and stands at around 600 nits of peak brightness. However, considering OLED panels generally don’t get very bright, it’s fine. With that said, you don’t have a hands-free Google assistant feature. The remote control is also not very user-friendly.
- 120 Hz refresh rate
- Multiple sizes
- Excellent contrast
- Vibrant colors
- Poor remote control
Reddit reviews:
“I just got my C2 yesterday. Upgrade from a E77 or some such pre-cx LG that had burni in.
I’m loving it. Still tweaking some settings. I need these Youtubers to hurry up and put out C2 Xbox series X settings videos. And general settings suggestions.” -u/MrJim911
“Reflections are almost non existent. But I still can’t dial in the settings for the Xbox. It’s really making me sad to spend so much money and not be happy with it. I’m going to wait for Vincent’s review at the end of the week and see if that helps. If not, I guess I’ll be taking the tv back and try something else.” -u/cvrossa
4. Samsung The Frame – A TV that blends into the environment
The Frame is one of the most popular TVs from Samsung. As the name suggests, the TV literally looks like a framed wall art, and blends in with the environment with other pictures/frames on your wall. It has a 4K standard QLED anti-glare display. It doesn’t feature an OLED panel, so you won’t get the sharper contrast and deeper blacks of an OLED. The TV comes in 7 sizes: 32 inches, 43 inches, 50 inches, 55 inches, 65 inches, 75 inches, and 85 inches. You can also choose the type of bezel you want. The types of custom bezels available for you will vary based on the size you choose. If you choose to get the 55 inch variant, there are 4 options to choose from: Beveled Brick Red, Modern White, Modern Teak, and Beveled White. However, if you choose to get the 32 inch variant, there are 5 options for you: Platinum, Vivid Lemon, Natural Pink, Brown, and White. The price starts at $549 for the 32 inch variant and goes up to $3299 for the 85 inch variant. If you choose to have a custom bezel too, it will cost you an additional price starting at $99 and going up to $199 depending on the size.
- Excellent design
- Doubles as wall art
- Highly customizable look
- Matte display
- Not so good for gaming
Reddit reviews:
“I just got the 22 version. A huge upgrade if you care about how real the artwork looks. Also important if the room is bright and normal tv’s have lots of glare.” -u/extremeoak
“If I had a choice I probably would opt for the matte, anti-glare technology because I live in a condo with L shaped living space that’s all windows and sliders. There is no where to hang our Frame that doesn’t get massive glare. I love it anyway. Even with the glare we have had people not realize it was a TV.” -u/LongjumpingAmoeba0
5. Samsung 32 inch QLED Q60A – 4K in a small size
If you’re looking for a small 4K TV, the 32 inch Q60A is the go-to option. At $429, the TV is not exactly a fairly good value for money. Released in 2021 but still going strong, the TV features a 4K display with 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space. The Dual-LED technology helps in better adjustment of colors and brightness. A built-in game bar and a Super Ultrawide Gameview gives a nice gaming experience by allowing you to change the aspect ratio from 21:9 to 32:9 easily. The TV supports Object Tracking Sound (OTS) Lite, which tracks the object in the picture and makes sure that the sound comes from that area, immersing you in a 3D surround sound. Apart from the 32 inch variant, the TV also comes in 7 other sizes: 43 inches, 50 inches, 55 inches, 60 inches, 65 inches, 70 inches, 75 inches, and 85 inches. However, apart from the 32 inch variant none of them is worth the money. There are other TVs on this list that come in bigger sizes, and are much better.
- Nice gaming experience
- Excellent color reproduction
- One of the only 32 inch TVs to offer 4K
- Bigger sizes are a terrible value for money
Reddit reviews:
“Looking for around a 30-40 inch tv.
There’s like one model from a reputable manufacturer that is even in that size range. The 32″ Samsung Q60A. Everything else is either 42″ or larger.
Price range: 200-300$ hope that’s not too low
That basically limits you to store-brand crap and not really anything worth buying.” -u/langes01x
“There’s no sub 32″ 4K TV btw and I think only Samsung make those with the Q60A series.” -u/thegreaterikku
